Through our partnership with Coach Rio dela Cruz, Run United has become one, if not the best, running event in the country.”

As a testament to the level of commitment that Active Health brings to the runners, it has brought in the Team Bike Boutique, the official merchandise partner of Ironman races worldwide, to organize the Run United Race Expo happening on June 13-16, 2012 at the BGC Grounds near Mercato.

Magnolia Purewater MAYON 360 Albay Ultramarathon

PRESS RELEASE
Office of Governor Joey Sarte Salceda
Province of Albay
March 30, 2012

The race around Mayon Volcano is back

The Province of Albay, home of Mayon Volcano, will be hosting its second edition of Mayon 360° Ultramarathon this coming April 21, 2012. This world-class race is an 80km ultramarathon around Mayon Volcano, also known internationally as “A 50-Mile Run around the World’s Most Perfect Coned Volcano”. It is the first ultramarathon event in the Bicol Region, wherein an ultramarathon means a running distance of more than the traditional marathon of 26miles (42.195 kms).

Mayon 360° Ultramarathon began its concept in the Junior Chamber International-Legazpi City Chapter and it was only through the partnership with Liga ng mga Barangay-Albay Chapter, Philippine Association of Ultrarunners and the leadership of Governor Joey Sarte Salceda that the project was funded and successfully implemented. The event was held in support of the various tourism programs of the Provincial Government of Albay and featured as one of the highlight events of the Magayon Festival celebration every month of April.

In its second edition, the event will be dubbed as MAGNOLIA PUREWATER MAYON 360° ALBAY ULTRAMARATHON. The change of event name reflects the entry of a major corporate sponsor - Magnolia Purewater, signifying that Magayon Festival events are gaining market traction!

Runners will be taken across the circumferential scenic mountain side of the Mayon Volcano, through the Pan-Philippine Highway, Sabluyun Road, Karangahan Blvd., and Tabaco-Legazpi Highway, crossing 7 municipalities, 3 cities and 77 barangays of the province of Albay.

Through the efforts of the local barangays, runners will be welcomed with aid stations every five kilometers of the race. Local folks along the route will showcase their local hospitality, tourist related info about their barangay, and provide much needed encouragement and support as the runners challenge themselves to finish. This same support at the grassroots barangay level, with close to 700 volunteers, helped the 1st edition of Mayon 360° Ultramarathon won the Philippine’s Best Sports Tourism Event, awarded by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP).

Magnolia Purewater Mayon 360° Albay Ultramarathon will be giving cash prizes of more than P230,000.00 with separate categories for local and international runners. The event is currently the cheapest ultramarathon in the country, with a registration fee of only 850 pesos. Said race is sanctioned by the Philippine Association of Ultrarunners  (PAU) as one its official races. A pre-race briefing will be held on April 20, 2012 at 5:00PM at the Albay Provincial Capitol Building, where the participants will be treated to a carbo-loading party. The race, with a 15-hour cut-off, will start at 4:00AM on April 21, 2012 at the Peñaranda Park, Legazpi City. For more information, please visit Mayon360.com

Running Essentials by Michelle Estuar (Skechers Fitness Philippines)

Last March 2012, I attended Running Essentials by Michelle Estuar. This seminar was presented by Skechers Fitness Philippines in Market Market New Wing.

PRC at Running Essentials Batch 2

In this event, Michelle discussed running basics and things to look out for in order to have a safe and fun running career. She details that runners should go by a few rules and take note of body signals and running equipment compatibility.

Listening to Michelle's know how

Watch out for more running essentials seminars as they held 2 batches in Manila, last, and one batch in Cebu, just this March 24.

Here's a sneak peek of insights from Michelle:

Running should be SAFE.

FIC (Fox International Channels, Inc) Run 2012

FIC Run is a fun run event that promotes running to couch potatoes of Fox International Channels, Inc. This was held last March 25, 2012 at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The fun run event was composed of 4 categories: the 500m costume run (where participants sported their best costume while battling it out to who sprints the fastest), the 3k run (run with the movie stars); the 5k run (run with the fashionistas, models and other celebrities) and the 10k (run for a cause where various non-profit organizations invited a number of runners to run for their own advocacies).

My 10k run

I decided to run 10k in this event. The original plan was to break my PR that was set in the Race for Orphans. But the night before, I had a late night and I was feeling lazy when I woke up to attend the race. I was undecided what to do on the actual race day and my body was still asleep so I had no plans until the 3rd kilometer marker.

Post Race with Titans Chaley and Jay

On another note, I decided to run as a Team Titan member so I sported out team singlet and meet other members of the team who I just met on that race. We started the race together but after the start we went on our own pace.

10k runners at the kalayaan stretch

At the beginning of the race, I ran in a steady pace. Not speeding up and not too slow. I was able to keep this pace. I sprinted for a few seconds just to keep my body awake. At the 5k marker, I planned to go at a higher speed but the 5k marker was in the slight hills of the Kalayaan exit so I decided to walk out a few meters since my heart rate was also nearing 190 bpm. From there, I remembered Coach Mherlz saying that the best way to get PR was to do farlek (that's when you vary your speed and effort in a run). In this way, I had overtaken a few people.

Lined up with Chaley na mabilis

But at the 8km, I started walking and running slowly as I was feeling the fatigue. Fighting the temptation of giving, I decided to attain my original plan but not with a 100% dedication as I wasn't really training for speed and running these past few weeks.

GOOD LUCK!

Congratulations, TBR Dream Marathoners!

Last year, 3 of our members (Pex Running Club), namely CJ, Dom and Nino, decided to run a marathon. Earlier in this year, Ian decided to join them. I'm not really sure what they were thinking but they decided they are going to achieve this feat and last March 18, 2012 they did.

PRC arrives in Nuvali to cheer

They started running 2am. At that time, we were still sound asleep as we, TBR Dream Marathoners Supporters from Pex Running Club, met at 5am and went to the wide open spaces of Nuvali together.

We arrived at around the 5:30 marker which was around 7am and awaited for the new marathoners to arrive. As we waited, we cheered for the other TBR marathoners. The energy in Nuvali was festive. Fellow running teams was also there to cheer for their members.

Cheering even if it started to rain

At around the 6:30 marker, CJ arrived towards the finish line and we cheered him on to his first marathon moment.

 Congrats, CJ!!!

Then, Dom arrived who promised to arrive at the 7 hour marker. He missed his goal by a few minutes but he was still happy as he paced with Ian who arrived minutes later.

 Congrats, Dom!!!

Then, Ian followed after a few minutes. His wife, Jenny joined us as we cheered him to the finish.

Congrats, Ian!!!

There were a lot of funny moments in that day. Yuri got lost going to Nuvali and we got funny conversations over the phone. It rained. The sun went up. The wind gushed our way. Mia shared her Durian treats. Jovit shared all kinds of snacks from peanut butter sandwiches to cupcakes. Sein, Enrichard and I paced our fellow members towards their TBRDM finish.

 with Marathoner Jackie

At 8 hours, we decided to proceed to the shaded cheerers area since Nino wasn't there yet. Mia asked the organizers to find out that they were still running in the last 10k to the finish line. Drew said it would still be an hour until they arrive so we just hanged out, talking about everything and taking photo ops. Past the 9 hour marker, Nino arrived with his wife and we cheered them to their finish. It wasn't that long until the last runners arrived so we let Nino and his wife have their winning moment and went to have lunch in a nearby food place in Laguna.

 Congrats, Nino and his wife!!!

Congratulations, CJ, Dom, Ian and Nino (and his wife)!!!

We're proud of you!
