Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines all set for August race in Cebu

Press Release

Six strong years of powering up the extraordinary for the ultimate test of endurance

(Manila, Philippines) Cobra Energy Drink, Sunrise Events, Inc. and three-time host location, Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu are now all geared up to hold the biggest and toughest triathlon race that the country has ever experienced, in which only the extraordinary can conquer. The 2014 Cobra Ironman 70.3 is set on August 3, expecting over 2,500 registrants from all over the globe. This year’s race marked history when registration slots were filled up all within 4 hours after the online registration opened. This is by far the biggest Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines in terms of registration count.

Cobra Energy Drink has been powering up the event for 6 years straight starting in 2009 when the first Cobra Ironman 70.3 was brought to the Philippines. As part of its efforts to promote the sport, Cobra Energy Drink, together with Sunrise Events, held the first Send-Off Expo last July 11-13, where registered triathletes and even just thriving athletes were provided with race-preparation seminars and lectures. This effort goes beyond sustaining the energy needed, but to also fuel up the mind and spirits of the athletes.

“We are taking a new philosophy route this year, as we push our hardworking athletes to Be Extraordinary. This is how Cobra Energy Drink sees their challenges – they are not only in competition with other athletes, but more importantly with themselves, outdoing their best race time this year,” explains Abe Cipriano, Asia Brewery AVP for Marketing of Non-Alcoholic Beverages.

The training needed for this kind of race takes a lot of effort combined with strong commitment and unyielding perseverance. These athletes’ strict preparation time lasts for months. Similar to the previous Ironman 70.3 events, athletes challenge themselves to reach the finish line for different reasons: some do it to promote a healthy lifestyle, some do it for their advocacies, and there are those who push themselves to test their endurance.

As part of Cobra’s ‘Be Extraordinary’ campaign, the brand acclaims the spirit of determination and perseverance of these Cobra Ironman 70.3 athletes who push themselves to be the best that they can be – and become inspiration to thriving athletes and everyday Filipinos. This is how to be extraordinary, by outdoing yourself with every challenge encountered, and for Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines, by outracing themselves.

Dreaming of a Staycation

As I am stuck at my graveyard shift when the other employees are soundly sleeping. Instead of doing serious work, I'll be dreaming of a vacation without the hassle of a tiring travel or a staycation.

My dream staycation involves a change of environment so leaving the office and leaving my current residence is a must. STEP 1 to a great staycation: Check in a hotel! It doesn't have to be a big room. It just has to comfortable.

Then, it would be time to relax and get lots and lots of sleep. STEP 2: SLEEP!

Sleeping wouldn't be enough to stay relax. You need nourishment to give you energy for the day. Don't mind the strict diets and calorie counting. You are on vacation. These restrictions are on a break. STEP 3: Eat!

Lastly, you have to be entertained so STEP 4: Watch movies, TV shows or Documentary.

My 4th runniversary: DZMM Color Run 2014

On the first week of May 2011, I joined my first running event. Four years later, I decided to join the DZMM Color Run 2014 on May 4, 2014 at BGC to celebrate my runniversary.

Pre-event

I haven't been training actively in running and I haven't targeted to join any running events. But it was my runniversary on the first week of May and I wasn't going to let that pass without a proper celebration. I wasn't planning to run seriously so I tagged my roommate along and enjoyed this themed run.

Actual Race

Our new place was 30 minutes away from our old one so I over-estimated our travel time and we were there extra early. We took that time to take pictures in the venue and prepare ourselves. The warm up was headed by the recently concluded (at least then) Biggest Loser finalists. We joined in jumping up and down with the crowd.

At around 6:00 am, we started running. We did run walk as we didn't train running all the way for 5km. We stopped and enjoyed each color station. And it took us an hour to finish the race.

Post-race

After the race, we changed out of our color powder filled running attire and had breakfast at a nearby restaurant. Later in the day, I washed the color off and it was easy to take it off.

Race Review

It was a great race with cool and ample hydration. Color ran out in some of the stations but the marshals improvised so those (like us) who wanted to be filled with color weren't disappointed. Participants who ran fast didn't get any color as the color marshals throw the powder slow. The color powder stinks but the run event was fun, overall.
