Runniversary at Slimmerun 2012

Slimmerun is an annual fun run organized by Slimmer's World International, Inc. This year, this event was held on May 5, 2012 at the 28th avenue, Bonifacio Global City. I joined this run last year and it was a fun experience so I didn't let time pass and registered as soon as I could. And since it was scheduled a year after my first official fun run event, this was my runniversary event.

Race to new PR

As I declared in a blogpost, I decided to break my 10k PR in celebration of my runniversary. Unfortunately, laziness struck and I didn't trained seriously to attain my sub-60 PR goal. But as a last resort strategy, I just made sure to run in a 5:30 min/km. Another thing is I went home late last Friday night so I didn't prepare much for the race much more (LOL).

With Bern and Jovit of PRC and Gelo

So I met fellow PRC (Pex Running Club) members, Bern and Emy, and fellow Team Titan Member, Rolly, at the starting line and ignored the dance-y warm up by a Slimmer's World instructor. We ran at our own pace so I was on my own with the pressure of keeping a 5:30 min/km pace.

 Post Race with Team Titans

For my first kilometer, I ran a bit too fast as I clocked 5:08 but I figured this could be a good thing so if I slowed down at the last kilometers. For the 2nd kilometer, I clocked 5:27 which was still within my target pace. I was also trying to slow down as I still had a long way to go. Then comes the 3rd kilometer, which had us elevating to the Kalayaan Flyover. I clocked 5:33min, taking in mind not to run fast in uphills since they take too much energy. The fourth kilometer had us running in Buendia avenue. In this time, I was pushing myself to run at a constant pace and I clocked at 6:07 and I was still in my target time. For the fifth kilometer, I motivated myself by uttering "5k, 5k, 5k" with a goal of not stopping to walk a little and clocked at 5:45. I did my first 5k at almost 28 minutes. I saw team mates, Rolly from Team Titans on my way to the turn around point, as well Rex and Bern on their way back. (Ang bibilis lang nila...)

My First Aquathlon: Ateneo Aquathlon 2012

The Ateneo Aquathlon is an annual event organized by FAST Swim Team in their off season. It is one of the few aquathlons in the metro so my team (PEx Swim Team) and I didn't let the chance to participate in a swim (and run) event.

Training

Honestly, I made plans to spend the whole of February to train for this event. However, run events came and I had to prioritize them. I tried to veer away from running long distances, though, so I would get any injuries. Also since this event required swimming, I had to log meters in the pool, which I couldn't do if I'm running an event in the morning.

PEx Swim Team at Rizal... mga Late kasi!

I dedicated my first week of February weekend to running Condura Skyway Marathon. The next weekend I did our monthly wall climbing sessions with Lee and ran the Race for the Orphans event so I skipped my swim training again.

Fortunately, I was able to go back to the pool on the third weekend Saturday which I was able to do 1k as advised by a friend who already did an aquathlon. But since I was also doing other physical activities, I had to rest the next day as I was too weak.

 Swimming done, run naman!

The week before the actual event, I gave up my Runew racekit to Cath (Pex Running Club team mate) who did 10k there while my team (PEx Swim Team) and I planned to do a dry run of swimming 600m and running 5k but since everyone else was late. We arrived in Rizal Sports by 11am and the pool closes by 11:30am. We rescheduled the dry run to the afternoon at MASA (Makati Aqua Sports Arena) as I am afraid of direct sunlight. At 4pm, we timed our 600m swim and I clocked at 20 minutes. We were supposed to run right after running but we wanted to run in BHS (Bonifacio High Street) so we took a short ride where we ran 5 loops in BHS.

 After 5 loops in BHS

It was a fine training but too challenging so we just made it a goal to finish our first aquathlon.

My First Aquathlon

As usual on race day, I had to get up extra early so I won't be late and since the venue would be all the way to Ateneo I had to give ample time for commute and my teammate Ae is an age group earlier than my gun start so I traveled extra early, too.

2012 Races: Timex Run, Condura Skyway Marathon

After grueling my first 21k event in Go Natural 2012, I had set my sights on my next runs.

Timex Run 2012

In 2009, Run Rio organized a Timex Run with Piolo Pascual to start off the company's career in organizing runs. Here they go again with 2012 Timex Run. I originally intended this run to be my first run of the year and I wanted to gun for a sub-60 PR. But since I just did 21k in Go Natural Run 2012, I will run aimlessly and pacing my fellow-PRC member, Hamza on his first 10k. If you're running the event too, say hello.

Condura Skyway Marathon 2012
One of the most awaited races of every year is the Condura Skyway Marathon. This year the environmental cause is for Mangroves. I didn't want to join this race since the starting line was in Alabang, which is a strange foreign land for me. But since PRC members are also joining this one, especially wall climbing buddy Lee who is an Alabang boy, will be joining. i decided to register as well.

What's Next?

After the Condura Marathon, I will be training with my PEx Swim Team since we'll be joining our first ever aquathlon. No official announcement yet but their twitter feed says that it will be held on March 4, 2012.
