Men vs. Women: Battle of the Sexes Leg 2

Battle of the Sexes is a one of a kind fun run where men and women battle it out for supremacy. In this race, women are given an advantage by having them start 10 minutes before the men and pitting them against each other by determining who can run finish faster. The leg 2 of this race was held last September 1, 2013 at the SM Mall of Asia grounds.

Pre-race

I was training religiously weeks before this race towards preparing for RUPM. In fact, I wanted this race to be just another training run. To my surprise, I wanted to be as competitive as I could because of the nature of the race.

Actual Race

I arrived on the dot for the announced gun start but since women were given a 10 minute advantage I had time to checked in my baggage. As we waited our turn to run, we could feel the pressure since women where already 1 km and more away. I don't want to be behind women who are walking. The pressure to defend you gender is there so I was competitive.

Along the race route

I was trying to catch up the middle pack of the women, most of the race. In turn, I finished at 1:01. No PR but a great performance nonetheless.

Post Race

I found Rolly and his housemates, as well as some members of team titans in the activity venue and we waited for the program to finish in the hopes of getting called for the raffle prize win. Unfortunately, no one was super lucky so we just had breakfast in KFC MOA.

Race Review

It was a great race as expected. Hydration was sufficient and the race route was typical Mall of Asia route. I commend the nature of the race since it did push me to run faster as expected.

Our Mechanics: Male and female to compete against each other to reach one finish line in one venue in two given distances of your choice. Female runners will run first with a head-start of 3 minutes for the 5K and 7 minutes for the 10K who will then be followed by the men afterwards.

Sofitel – Run Rio Battle of the Sexes Leg 2

Manila, July 22, 2013 – Sofitel Philippine Plaza announces the launch of the Sofitel-Run Rio Battle of the Sexes Leg 2, a 5 k and 10k  Fun Run to be held on the 1^st of September 2013 at the SM MOA Grounds, SM Mall of Asia.  Luxury prizes from Sofitel is at stake during the fun run including a three night stay at the Sofitel suite, access to Club Millésime, the hotel’s exclusive Club lounge, dining at Spiral, beauty treatments from Le Spa and Vietura, the new Aesthetic Lifestyle Institute.  The second run follows the success of its first leg which attracted more than 3,000 runners last March 2013.

RunRio is a series of 10k and 5 K fun runs organized by the Sofitel Philippine Plaza together with RunRio Inc. and headed by the foremost running coach in the country, Coach Rio de la Cruz. The Battle of the Sexes Fun Run’s unique concept of male vs. female is a first in the country with both 10 k and 5k race. Male and female participants will compete with each other in one finish line, one venue, and one distance. Female runners will start the race then the male runners will follow after  3 minutes (5k) and  7 minutes (10k run).

Sofitel Philippine Plaza general manager, Adam Laker says, “We were delighted with the success of our first ever run in collaboration with Coach Rio dela Cruz which attracted more than 3,000 runners.  Over PHP 755,000 have been raised and has been used to purchase a van that was recently handed over to the Virlanie Foundation for their activities for the street children of Manila.  It is Sofitel Philippine Plaza’s advocacy to create a brighter future for the less privileged children of Manila.  Since 2007, the hotel has launched several projects to help raise funds to support the foundation’s benevolent activities in order to reach out to the children and families living in the poorest areas of Metro Manila.
